The Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company Ericsson is among the world’s most innovative leaders in various areas, including telecommunications, 5G, infrastructure, software, and ICT services, among others. The company is particularly notable as the inventor of Bluetooth technology, and over the years it has grown steadily in both size (over 100,000 people employed, with a presence in over 180 countries) and scope (more than 57,000 granted patents).
As an industry leader, Ericsson understands its pivotal role in shaping a sustainable and connected future. The company’s purpose and mission are clear, with a focus on delivering positive change through mobile connectivity.
Tarek Saadi, as a former head of diversity and inclusion at Ericsson for the Middle East region, knows from firsthand experience how the company’s offerings, especially its media solutions, played a key role in achieving this vision. At the CABSAT 2016 event in Dubai, Mr. Saadi offered insights into Ericsson’s video offerings.

The Video World
CABSAT is an annual broadcast digital media and satellite expo that brings together broadcasters, TV service providers, and content owners to discuss the state of the TV industry. With cloud technology permeating through many aspects of business, various industry players must keep up and offer solutions. Ericsson played its role in this regard, offering simple yet powerful solutions during the 2016 event.
According to Mr. Saadi, part of Ericsson’s offerings in the video space at the time touched on aspects such as video caching, compression, and optimizing in mobile networks. The event was also an opportunity for Ericsson to showcase Media First, which is a broad platform that allows operators to deliver content to multiple platforms. The lineup of video offerings underscored the company’s focus on video, which has become a dominant mode of communication globally.
For Ericsson, emphasizing video solutions is also strategic as it helps with enhancing customer experience. Given that many of its clients are operators, these entities (the operators) must ensure video content is delivered on time and efficiently. Ericsson’s role is to ensure that its solutions help with network resource usage, which is a critical measure for operators and would suffer greatly if video content occupied an inordinate amount of resources. Video also represents a revenue opportunity for operators, so having a solution like Media First enables them to capture revenue by delivering their content on multiple screens.
